Jackovich, Mildred Marie
(February 8, 1928 - December 8, 2011) Mildred Marie Jackovich, 83, of Green Cove Springs, FL passed away December 8, 2011. She was born on February 8, 1928 in Gainesville, FL to Garrett and Kathleen Cannon. Mrs. Jackovich moved to Green Cove Springs from the Ocala/Salt Springs area four years ago. A very active lady, she was always on the go. She loved quilting, ceramics and cooking and was a very loving Momma and Granny who loved helping others. She was predeceased by her son William Hough. Survivors include daughters, Melanhe Ferrotta and Kathleen Hough and 8 grandchildren. Jackson, Mrs. Julia H.
Mrs. Julia H. Jackson, 80 of Fleming Island passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, March 20, 2012 at the Orange Park Medical Center. Mrs. Jackson was born on February 24, 1932 in Newark, New Jersey. Prior to her retirement she worked in the Supermarket Deli. Mrs. Jackson has been a resident of Fleming Island for the past year moving here from New York State. She was of the Catholic Faith and she enjoyed crocheting and making scarfs. Her husband Michael Joseph Jackson had preceded her in death. Survivors are children; Michael Jackson and his wife Fran of Green Cove Springs, Lynn Meister and her husband William of Highland Mills, New York, and Laurie Nemes and her husband (Frank) of Hillsdale, New Jersey. She also leaves behind her two sisters; Carol Polakowski and Ellie Cameron, and five grandchildren. There are no services scheduled at this time. Jackson, Lafayette (Larry) Jr.
Lafayette (Larry) Jackson Jr., father of four, died Sunday February 26 at his home. He was 80 years old and lived in Clay County since 1966 with his wife, JoEllen. They were married 54 years and have one son and three daughters (John Jackson, Renee Mickler, Karen Jackson and Brenda Williams) as well as five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was a 20-year veteran of the U.S. Air Force and also worked for Home Depot for 22 years before retiring. His hobbies included creating useful wooden items for the home as well as growing fruits and vegetables. His funeral will be held Friday, March 2 at 2pm at Hardage-Giddens Rivermead Funeral Home, 127 Blanding Blvd., Orange Park, Fl 32073. Viewing will be from 12 noon until 2pm. Mr. Roy Marvin Jackson, Sr., 66, of Green Cove Springs, passed away April 17, 2011 in Jacksonville, Fla. He was born in Ty, Ga., on September 7, 1944 to Henry and Inez Brown Jackson. He was an Iron Worker by trade and had lived in Green Cove Springs since 1989, moving his family here from North Jacksonville. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Geraldine, in 2005, his parents, and 2 sisters. He is survived by his sons, Roy M. Mrs. Clarice Jarosz 87 of Keystone Heights passed away Monday April 18, 2011 in Jacksonville. She was born in Jacksonville on February 19, 1924 to the late Paul and Courtney (Williams) Howard and was a homemaker. She has been a resident of Keystone Heights since 1970 and a member of the Keystone Heights First Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband Paul Jarosz, Sr., a son, Paul Jarosz, Jr., and two brothers, Paul Howard and Ray Padgett. JOEST, JARED COTHRAN
Jared Cothran Joest, age 31, passed away Saturday, September 10, 2011 in Madison County, FL. Jared was a native of Jacksonville, FL and was a carpenter and a member of Riverside Primitive Baptist Church and he loved to fish and enjoyed sports. He is survived by his parents, John and Candice Joest. His son, Landon Kyle Joest who Jared says was “God’s Greatest Gift”. Sara Hall, the mother of his son and the love of his life. His brothers, Jonathan Lee Smithand Jordan Charles Joest and his grandmother, Barbara Wagner (Walt). Jared was love by multiple aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Johannides, Mildred Mae
Mildred Mae Johannides, 93, of Penney Farms, FL, passed away March 8, 2013. She was born on May 13, 1919 in Rochester, PA to Paul and Stella (Graham) Shanor. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband of 58 years, Rev. Francis C. Johannides; daughter, Vicki Birdsall; granddaughter, Erika Anderson; two brothers and a sister. She is survived by her son, David (Ruth) Johannides; daughter, Carol Keller; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Mrs. Johannides was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who devoted her life to her husband’s ministry in the United Methodist and Christian Missionary Alliance churches. She loved teaching lab schools and was an education director of the West Michigan Conference of the UMC. Her special gift was hospitality and she and Rev. Johannides opened their home to everyone. Becoming a part of the Penney Retirement Community, she volunteered at Beyer House and Penmore Place residences and was instrumental in raising funds for the Commons Building on campus. The final three years of her life were spent as a resident of Hagan Care. He had served his country in the United States Army and had worked at Clay Electric as a tree surgeon and line foreman. He enjoyed gardening and tree work and was a lifelong resident of the area. Dan was a loving husband, father and papa and will be remembered as a kind man. Mrs. Betty Jean Batman Jones born on October 11, 1926 in Vincennes, IN was called home, on Thursday, June 30, 2011 in Orange Park, Fla. Born to Emery E. and Zora E. She moved to Flora, IL at a young age. Graduated from Flora High School in 1944, then moved back to Vincennes, IN to attend Vincennes University. In 1947 she met a sailor on leave, Ralph A. Jones, Jr. whom she married in February, 1949. Betty and Ralph were married for over 62 years. She is the mother of Jean Ann Jones Shaw (Mark) of Ponte Vedra and Ralph E. “Buddy” Jones (LeAnne) of Green Cove Springs; grandmother to Joanna C. Shaw Frost (John); Bethany M. Shaw Johnson (Andy) and Hannah Jones; great-grandmother to Sari Frost; Selah; Ocean and AJ Johnson; Aunt to niece Cassie Lackey; and three great-nephews. She is predeceased by her parents and her infant son Ralph and infant daughter Sherry. She was a homemaker and Tupperware Dealer. She also enjoyed substitute teaching for Clay County Public Schools during the 1960’s and 1970’s. She was a long time member of First United Methodist Church of Green Cove Springs where she taught Sunday School and was a former choir director. December 6, 1938 - August 29, 2011 Helen Ruth Barnes Jones, age 72, of Orange Park died peacefully, August 29, 2011, with her family at her side. A loving wife and mother of four daughters, she was a caring homemaker who was active in her community. No matter how busy she was with family, she always found time to be an advocate for anyone in need. She grew up in East Tennessee, but raised her family in Panama City, FL and Orange Park. She was recognized as "Mother of the Year" by the March of Dimes, taught Sunday school and was known as the "Art Lady" of vacation bible schools. She was an inspirational Troop Leader for the Girl Scouts in addition to being someone the Parent-Teacher organizations could always count on over the years. She never missed a ballgame, theatrical performance, or an opportunity to raise supportive funds for the many extracurricular activities her girls enjoyed so very much. She was known for throwing the best parties where the handmade decorations were as important as the food and always provided an environment where the neighborhood children felt right at home. To know her, truly was to love her. A private memorial service was held on September 1, 2011. Arrangements under the direction of Hardage-Giddens Rivermead Funeral Home, Orange Park, FL. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, J. Mr. Owen Evan Jones, 101, passed away Wednesday August 24, 2011. He was born April 29, 1910 in Birkenhead, Wales. He worked as a tree surgeon for Davey Tree Expert Company for twenty years and then started a business of his own retiring in 1987. JURKOVICH, EDITH
Mrs. Edith Jurkovich, 84 years old. Born February 2, 1927, in Providence, Rhode Island, passed away Monday, April 5, 2011 at Orange Park Hospital. She leaves behind husband, John Jurkovick, children, Donna Cohen (Glenn), Linda Sladek (Robert), Mark Cummings (Margaret), Peter Cummings, and John Cummings, sisters, Veronica Nelson and Millie Mangan, multiple grandchildren and great grandchildren. Preceded in death by husband, Paul Cummings and sons, Paul in Vietnam and Matthew Cummings to cancer. She became the matriarch of the Cummings family when she lost her first husband Paul Cummings when she was only 36 years old and had 7 children. Through her faith and because of love for her family she went to school and became a nurse. She was then employed with Moosehaven where was employed until her retirement. She went on to marry John Jurkovich. She was a devoted mother, wife and friend to many. She was a Member of St. Catherine's Church, Moosehaven and was an EMT and Volunteer with Clay County where she manned one of the first Volunteer Rescue Units in the County, Rescue 74 which was stationed at the time at her home. Funeral services were held Saturday, April 9 in the chapel at Jacksonville Memory Gardens Funerals Home with Father James R. Boddie, Jr. officiating. Interment followed in Jacksonville Memory Gardens Cemetery.

JURKOVICH, JOHN (JAY)
Mr. John Jurkovich (Jay) 79 years old. He was born on February 5, 1932 in New York State. He passed away April 30, 2011 in Orange Park, Florida. He is preceded in death by parents, Paul and Elizabeth (Tomik) Jurkovich, wife, Edith Jurkovich and sons, Paul and Matthew Cummings. He passed away following a short illness just weeks after his Bride, Edith. His family includes the children of his beloved wife Edith. Daughters include Donna Cohen (Glenn), Linda Sladek (Robert) and Sons, Mark Cummings (Margaret), Peter Cummings and John Cummings also Sisters, Janet Batcher (Jerry) of Glenmont, NY and Sister Theresa Clarivlo of Garrison, NY. He met and married Edith Cummings who had seven children with her late husband. He was a devoted father to her children and loving husband to her and always referred to Edith as “My Bride”. He was an unassuming man who gave freely of his love and support to his family and friends. Everyone who knew Jay thought him to be a very giving man. He was retired from the U.S. Navy and went on the work for and retired from the United States Postal Service. He was a Volunteer on one of the first Rescue Units in Clay County with his wife Edith and son Peter. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and St. Catherine’s Church. He will be missed by all who knew him. Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 4 in the Chapel at Jacksonville Memory Gardens Funeral Home with Father James R. Boddie, Jr. officiating.
