TABER, MATTIE R.
Mrs. Mattie R. Taber, 83, of Keystone Heights passed away on Wednesday, January 12, 2011, in Va. She was born in Miami and was a retired Bookkeeper, a member of the Freedom Baptist Church and D.A.R. She was preceded in death by her husband David Taber, Jr. Her survivors are her sons, David R. Taber, III (Winnie), Donald James Taber (Lou Anne), a daughter, Kathleen Suzanne Cowart (Jack); a brother, Wilson Rucks; six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Viewing will be held on Friday, January 21 from 6-8 p.m. in the Freedom Baptist Church. TAGGART, GLADYS T.
Mrs. Gladys T. Taggart, 99, of Green Cove Springs, Fla., passed away Tuesday, January 11, 2011. She was born on November 13, 1911, in Green Cove Springs, FL to Raleigh and Hattie Thomas. She had been a licensed cosmetologist from 1933 until 2003 and was the owner of Campbell’s Beauty Parlor. She had been a lifelong resident of Green Cove Springs and was a member of Beulah Baptist Church. She enjoyed working in her garden and will be dearly missed by her loving family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and by her husbands, William “Bud” J. Campbell and Rev. Lester Taggart. She is survived by two step-daughters; several step-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and special friend, Sue Shealey and family. TAYLOR, CARL "PA"
Mr. Carl "Pa" Taylor passed away Wednesday morning, February 25, 2009, in Cedar Hills Nursing home at the age of 76. He was born to Carl E. Taylor and Louise Norman on August 7, 1932, in Starke, Fla. He was the oldest of five, and the last living of two brothers, Josh and Hardee and two sisters, Carolyn and Annie. He married Geraldine Carter on February 1, 1952. They had five children, Ricky, Mickey, Debbie, Pete and Judy. Geraldine preceded him in death on June 12, 1981. His son, Ricky preceded him in death November 1995, and his son, Mickey also preceded him in death July 2007. He later married, Jettie Abernathy who preceded him in death in 2001. Carl worked for many years in the junk business and later in life went to work at St. Regis Sawmill as a Loader operator. He was an outdoorsman. He loved deer hunting and fishing, especially for bream. He is survived by, daughters, Debbie Strange and Judy Taylor Smith; one son, Pete Taylor and his wife, Helen; also, nine grandchildren, Shawn; Glen; Stacy; Misty; Rachel; Sirena; Jessica; Cory and Michelle; his granddaughter, Tabbi Taylor preceded him in death on his birthday, August 7, 1994. Also ten great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. His remains will be buried at Long Branch Cemetery with the mother of his children, Geraldine Taylor. Frances Lord Taylor: Born May 19 1921 passed away on Monday Jan 9th 2012. Frances was oldest daughter to Clair B Lord and Gladys Daughtrey(both deceased)graduated from Robert E Lee High school and was very proud to have gone back to school and received a AA degree in business at age of 50. Frances married the love of her life Henry B. Taylor in 1941 and they had one son Henry B. Taylor. Hank passed away in July 1995. Frances and Henry celebrated their 70 anniversary with a reception given by their family and friends in Feb 2011. Frances was predeceased by her two sisters Lenawee Motes and Betty Aid and sister-in-law Margaret Oliver. Frances is survived her husband Henry. Brother-in-laws George Motes and Edgar Aid Nieces Claire Smith,Frances Motes, Lib Rast, Meg Barr and Frieda Cromley. Nephews Richard and Michael Oliver, George and Chuck Motes. Many loving cousins and great nieces and nephews and a host of friends Frances was loving and kind and caring person and will be missed by all. TAYLOR, JOHN E.
Mr. John E. Taylor, age 85, went to be with his Lord on Tuesday, August 7, 2011, at Penney Retirement Community, where he had resided since 2000. He was born in Edgewater, NJ, and grew up in New York City in Manhattan. He served in the Army Air Corps and afterwards graduated from Boston University. He was preceded in death by his wife Ellen, his parents and his sister. He has one nephew, Skip Swensen, of Forestville, California. For 26 years John was employed by the third oldest and largest fund raising firm in New York City, working with universities, colleges, and prep schools. He retired as Executive Vice President and enjoyed his hobby of sailing in Marblehead, Massachusetts. He and his wife were members of the First Baptist Church of Marblehead for many years. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 27, 2 p.m. at Penney Memorial Church, Penney Farms, Fla. TENNITY, HAZEL MARY
(August 15, 1923 - October 26, 2011) Hazel passed away October 26, 2011 at the age of 88. She was born to Adolphus and Mary Harrison August 15, 1923 in Rochester, New York. Hazel married Mr. Louis Tennity on January 31, 1942. They had three children, Patricia, Pauline and Roberta. She was employed as a bank teller for South California First National bank retiring in 1979. She also worked as a waitress at the Town & Country Hotel for 15 years. Hazel became affiliated with the Loyal Order of Moose in January 1973 when she joined Kearney Mesa, San Diego, California Chapter #1337. After much work, dedication and enjoyment, she received the Academy of Friendship Degree in 1981, College of Regents Degree in 1984 and her Star Recorder Degree in 1991. Hazel came to Moosehaven on March 30, 2004 where she resided for 7 years. Hazel is survived by her three daughters, Patricia Tennity of Anchorage, Alaska, Pauline Hemphill of Wickenburg, Arizona and Roberta Woolley of Chiloquin, Oregon, Six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Mrs. Lorene Gay Thacker, 78, of Green Cove Springs, FL, passed away Wednesday, May 18, 2011. She was born on August 29, 1934 in Grundy, VA to Claude and Sophie Clevinger. She was a librarian known as the “Bookmobile Lady” for over 20 years before retiring. She was a member of the Little Ruth Old Regular Baptist Church. She has lived in Green Cove Springs for over 50 years. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Elmer Thacker and son Steven. She is survived by her son, Paul (Teresa) Thacker of Green Cove Springs, brother, Jerry (Janie) Clevinger; sister, Alice (John) Woods; 3 grandchildren, Jason, Jeffrey (Misty) and Zachary; 4 great-grandchildren, Abbey, Haley, Caleb and Keira. Infant Carrington Thibodeaux, passed away April 18, 2012. She was born to Jennifer Lizardi and Alpacino Thibodeaux on April 18, 2012, in Orange Park, Florida. She is survived by her parents, her brother Ricardo, Maternal Grandparents Migdalia and Victor Lizardi, and Paternal Grandfather Ronald Thibodeaux. THIGPEN, WINNIE LEE (MINCHEW)
Mrs. Winnie Lee (Minchew) Thigpen passed away peacefully on Wednesday June 29, 2011. She was born October 26, 1920 in Nashville, GA to Wilbur and Mary Minchew. She was the beloved wife of the late Lovett Thigpen. Winnie and Lovett owned the Corral Restaurant and Caterers, a popular eating spot known for its smorgasbord. For years they along with their dedicated employees and family catered many of the premier events in Jacksonville. She was a member of North Jacksonville Baptist Church and for many years a volunteer at St. Luke’s Hospital. She is survived by her son Gary (Glenn); grandsons, David (Nicole), Marc (Bonnie) and Brandon; great-grandchildren, Jasmine, Melanie, Kadence, Breanna, Taylor and McKenzie; sisters, Betty (Russ) Sirmans, Nina Killen; brothers, Jeff (Peggy) Minchew, Bill (Laura) Minchew and Bobby (Linda) Minchew and many nieces, nephews and their children. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her sisters Lola Hedges and Barbara Pittman and her brothers Leon and Rudolph Minchew. She was a life long resident of Clay County and loved by all who knew her. THOMAS, CLARICE W.
Ms. Clarice W. Thomas, 89, passed away Wednesday, July 20, 2011, after a battle with cancer. Born in Crewe Va., graduated from Eastern High School, Washington D.C. in 1940. She has been a resident of Orange Park since 1966. She is survived by two daughters, Carol C. (Lechner) Lively, Debra Crowder Fitch and one son, Lemuel H. Crowder III. She also has 5 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great granddaughter, and one niece and nephew in Virginia Bch. Va. Clarice was a Navy homemaker for 25 years. She then started her career as an Accounting Technician for the Navy Finance Dept at NAS Jax., where she retired at age 72, after 27 years of service. She was an active member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post 5968, Fleet Reserve Association Auxiliary Branch 91, NARFE. She was also a member of the Moose & the Marine Corp. League. She joined the American Business Women’s Association in 1972. She and other ABWA members worked very hard to establish a Chapter in Orange Park. She became the Charter Chapter President of the ABWA, and held various offices over the years. Through the ABWA Clarice worked diligently to help raise money for scholarships for women. She was devoted to her large family and felt blessed that most of her family lived in the area. She was pre-deceased by her Mother, Sister, ex husband, Lemuel H. Crowder Jr. and husband William S. Thomas. Anyone who knew Clarice, knew she loved life, and enjoyed every day. Funeral service will be held Tuesday, July 26, at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of Holly Hill Funeral Home, 3601 Old Jennings Rd. Susan B. Thomas was born in Roslyn, NY on October 16, 1954. She grew up in Port Washington, NY and moved to Jacksonville, Fla., in 1972 where she resided until her death on Sunday May, 8 2011. She is survived by her son, Kenneth Thomas, and daughter, Brandy Thomas, as well as many family and friends. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Wendy Susan Thomas, 61 of Green Cove Springs, died Monday evening, September 19, 2011 at her residence. Mrs. Thomas had been a resident of Green Cove Springs since 1996 when she moved here from Pensacola, FL. She was a medical records technician for Clay Behavioral in Middleburg for over 10 years where she volunteered in many projects. Her hobbies included fishing, traveling, spending time with family and friends, Jaguar Football and helping with many community service activities. While living in Pensacola she was a champion bowler winning many local tournaments in the Pensacola area. Survivors include her husband of 34 years John “Danny” Thomas, 3 children Katherine Michelle (Allen) Gates, Suzanne Leigh (David) Baisden and Shawn Daniel (Christina) Thomas, 2 sisters Leanne Bailey and Karen Shaffer, mother-in-law Dorothy E. “Grandma” Thomas, 6 grandchildren, 1 great grandson, along with many nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Thompson, Mr. John W. “Wally”
Mr. John W. “Wally” Thompson, 76 of Middleburg, went to be with his Lord and Savior on July 22, 2012. He was born June 22, 1936 in Lyons, Georgia to the late Odell and Isla (Higgs) Thompson. Wally was a loving husband, beloved father and grandfather. He was a proud member of First Baptist Church of Middleburg for 34 years, serving as a Deacon, Sunday School Director, and Senior Adult Ministry Director. He was the proud owner and operator of a small family business, Economy Water Conditioning Company. Before owning his company, he worked for the United States Postal Service in Jacksonville. He served in the United States Army after graduating from Toombs County High School. He grew vegetables in his garden throughout the year, played softball for various church teams, enjoyed puzzles, and loved to travel. One of his favorite places to visit was the North Carolina Mountains, as well as seeing his family in Georgia and Oklahoma. He especially loved seeing the grandkids. Along with his parents, Wally was preceded in death by a son, Jeffrey Allen Thompson, and 3 Brothers, Harold, Wendell, and Doyle Thompson. Tongol, Susan Daegele
Susan Daegele Tongol, 54, of Fleming Island, FL passed away Friday, March 2, 2012. She was born on February 24, 1958 in Clinton, Indiana to parents Donald and Patricia (Weir) Daegele. Susan moved to the local area in 1999 from Pensacola, FL. Mrs. Tongol became a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Fleming Island in 1999, where she later became a Eucharistic Minister. Her faith touched the lives of many people. Susan volunteered as a board member for the CHILD Cancer Fund, after losing her only daughter to the disease. In 2004, Mrs. Tongol started working as the School Secretary for Thunderbolt Elementary. In her spare time she enjoyed cooking, flower arranging and various crafts. Her family will always remember her as a devoted wife, loving daughter and caring mother, who will be dearly missed by all those who knew her. Susan is preceded in death by her beautiful daughter, Kaitlyn and is survived by both of her parents; her loving husband, of 30 years, whom she met in Oahu, HI, Crisencio “Cris” Tongol; son, Justin; brothers, Douglas (Linda) Daegele, Daniel (Karie) Daegele and Richard Daegele; sisters, Christine (Gary) DeVriend, Teresa (Thomas) Lucas and Julie (Roger) Strecker, Sr. and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. TOTI, EDWARD F.
Mr. Edward F. Toti, 83, passed away quietly at home on Sunday, April 10, 2011, in Orange Park, Fla. He was married to his beloved wife Joanna Isabella Signer for 41 years who preceded him, June 1992. He is survived by his daughter, Joanna C. Brown; and his son, James E. Toti; and 2 grandsons, Andree Hoover and Byron G. Brown. He was a decorated veteran of three wars World War II, Korean War, and Vietnam War. He trained as a Navy Seal and served 30 years in the U.S. Navy. Mr. Michael John Touchton, Sr. 54 of Middleburg passed away Monday (August 1, 2011?)morning at his residence. He was a native and lifelong resident of the Jacksonville area and graduated from Orange Park High School Class of 1975. He was a past employee of John Mansfield and was an independent commercial fisherman for over 20 years. He had a love for fishing and hunting and was described by his family as an “outdoorsman”. Survivors include his wife Erin M. Touchton, son Michael Touchton, Jr., parents John and Betty Touchton, sister Robyn (Hamden) Baskin, niece Rachel and nephew Randall. TRAYNER, RICHARD ELWOOD
November 8, 1946 - June 7, 2011 Mr. Richard Elwood Trayner was born November 8, 1946, in Danville, Ky., son of the late Luther Trayner and Kaye Robertson. Known to most as “Rick,” he was a proud University of Kentucky Alumni with Masters Degrees from Salve Regina College and Central Michigan University. He retired as a Captain after 30 years in the United States Navy. Resident of Orange Park, Fla., he was Vice President of the Aerospace Group at Wyle and a dedicated member and deacon at Island View Baptist Church. A firm believer in giving back to others and serving both his community and his country, he was an active member of the Salvation Army of Clay County and the Rotary Club of Orange Park (Sunrise). Rick was Chairman of the First Coast HonorAir and he assisted in raising funds to take WWII veterans to observe their memorials in Washington, D.C. He was a devoted and generous husband, father, and community volunteer. He loved the state of Kentucky and was a KY Colonel since 1982. He was the ultimate UK basketball fan who enjoyed NASCAR, FSU and Jaguar football, fishing, sailing and kayaking. He was an avid reader and enjoyed a variety of music, especially blue grass and country. Rick had a positive impact on the lives of countless people and his “work hard, play hard” attitude showed through everything he accomplished. He is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Mary Lee Trayner, and children, Richard E. Trayner Jr., and Ashley K. Trayner of Jacksonville, a sister, Norma Carole Lipfert (Rick) of Vero Beach, FL., step-brother, Harold “Rocky” Robertson (Sue) of Birmingham, AL., and two grandchildren, Reagan Trayner and Kinsley Trayner. TRENTT, RONALD “RON”
Mr. Ronald "Ron" Trentt passed away Monday May 2, 2011 in Orange Park, FL at the age of 71. He was born to Harry and Bernice Trentt on February 16, 1940 in Aurora, IL. He is survived by his wife, Reta of Moosehaven; daughter, Marsha (Jerry) Evitts of Aurora, IL; son, Bill (Maria) Soule of Oxnard, CA; three grandchildren, Jacqui, William and Alex; one brother, and two sisters. He worked as a police officer for Kendall County, Illinois for 20 years. Ron served as Moosehaven Admissions Director from 2001 - 2007. Prior to that, he worked at Moose International Headquarters and was the official Mooseheart Santa Claus for 20 years. Ron was a life member of Batavia Moose Lodge #682 joining in 1976. He served as Governor and Administrator and was a past District President of the Illinois Moose Association. He received his Fellowship Degree in 1981 and the Pilgrim Degree of Merit in 1991. He enrolled 366 members into the Moose Organization in his lifetime. Ron retired from Moosehaven and he and his wife Reta became Moosehaven residents in 2007. TROXEL, BOB W.
Mr. Bob W. Troxel, 91, longtime resident of Orange Park, Fla., passed away on Monday May 30, 2011 in Manorville, NY. He was a Navy veteran of WWII and an active reserve member until 1963. He retired from civil service in 1983 after working at NAS Jax and NARF for 20 years. He was a member of Orange Park Masonic Lodge # 267 and Orange Park OES # 226. He was a firm believer in blood donation and had donated over 22 gallons of blood at the Florida Georgia Blood Alliance. He was preceded in death by his only son, Robert C. in 1977. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Dorothy Elizabeth Troxel; daughter, Janet Tracy (James) of Manorville, New York; daughter-in-law, Gail Troxel (Robert C.); six grandchildren, Leslie, Robert, Lori, Dawn, Christopher, Sean and spouses; seven great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Jake, Rebecca, Jessica, Corey Ann, Jordan and Michael, numerous nieces, nephews and other loving family members and friends. TRUDO, KELLY ANN
Miss Kelly Ann Trudo, a.k.a. KAT, passed away Sunday August 28, 2011 the age of 47. A kind, sensitive soul with a heart of gold, she graduated valedictorian from Long Beach, MS high school in 1982 with her twin sister Shelly. She loved her family, especially her nieces and nephews. She was an extremely gifted artist, and displayed her art wonderfully in every room in her home. She was a kid at heart and enjoyed biking, swimming, and (before bad knee) running. She touched all and will be greatly missed. She is preceded in death by her father Clark Trudo; grandparents Chamberlins and Kip Trudo; and her adopted grandmother Jean Bennett. Kelly is survived by her mother Karen Landry; stepfather Edmund Landry; four brothers Clark Trudo (Suzie Q), Daryl Landry, Kevin Trudo, and Chip Landry; four sisters JoLynn Trudo Gruzdis (Al Gruzdis), twin sister Shelly Trudo Yocom (Bert Yocom), Kim Trudo, and Sharron Landry. Mrs. Corris Evelyn Tucker, 85, of Green Cove Springs passed away on Friday, April 15, 2011 at the Orange Park Medical Center surrounded by her loving family. Born in Clay County to Dewey and Ella McBride, Corris was a lifelong resident of Green Cove Springs and a member of the Hickory Grove Baptist Church. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was preceded in death by her husband Loren Tucker. Tucker, William "Bill" G.
William “Bill” G. Tucker, 83, of Green Cove Springs, FL, passed away Tuesday, April 3, 2012. He was born on September 8, 1928 in Columbus, OH to parents Lawrence and Ardis Tucker. He had been a sheet metal worker and was of the Baptist faith. Bill enjoyed fishing, painting and woodworking and will be dearly missed by his loving family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his wife, Sally A. Tucker; sister, Jenna Elam (Joseph) and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and many cousins. TURKNETT, ROY LAMANCE
Mr. Roy LaMance Turknett 78, of Keystone Heights died Saturday, Sept. 17, 2011. Mr. Turknett was born on March 14, 1933 in Jacksonville, and had owned and operated Roy Turknett Engineers in Jacksonville for over 45 years. He was a long time member of the Community Church of Keystone Heights, and a member of the Keystone Heights Rotary Club, and past President of the West Jacksonville Rotary Club, where he was a multiple Paul Harris Fellow. He was inducted into the Grand Guards at the University of Florida and was a member of ASHRAE Engineering Society. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Frances (Hadley) Turknett, children, Larry (Cindi) Turknett and Cindy (Bobby), one sister: Gladys (Jack) Hogan, and 4 grandchildren. Funeral Services were held on at the Community Church of Keystone Heights, with Pastor Rob Morford officiating. Burial will be in Keystone Heights Cemetery.
