ODIERNA, LILLIAN MARIE
Mrs. Lillian Marie Odierna, born November 29, 1927, has passed on after a long illness to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 31, 2011. She was born in the Bronx, New York, and has spent the last 29 years in Florida. She is survived by her loving husband of 29 years, Frank C. Odierna, her four children, Georgeanne Chastain and spouse Bernie, Charles Schweibert and spouse Marybeth, Christine Roche and Robert Schweibert, and her sister Madeline Szubinski. Lillian is also the loving stepmother of Reverend Dr. Robert Odierna and spouse Heidi, Frank Odierna, Jr., Lynn Odierna and Maria Baker. Lillian is the beloved grandmother of 15 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. There will be a viewing for family and friends in New York at the Massapequa Funeral Home, Park Ave. and Clark St. in Massapequa Park, NY. The funeral mass will be held at St. Jude’s Episcopal Church, 3606 Lufberry Ave, in Wantagh, NY. Burial will follow in Calverton National Cemetery in Calverton, NY. O’DONOGHUE, LESLIE JOHN
Leslie John O’Donoghue, “Les”, 86, of Orange Park, FL, passed away on December 26, 2012. He was born to Lillian Stewart Moodie O’Donoghue and Henry Leslie O’Donoghue on February 18th, 1926 in Dundee, Scotland and immigrated to the USA as a small child. Les was always a driven individual and started working at a very young age as a bell boy, Western Union delivery boy and newspaper delivery boy to save money for his first car at the age of 13. Following High School in Pontiac, MI, he enlisted in the Army Air Forces during WWII. He was the first person in his family to graduate from college and did so with an Engineering Degree from General Motors Institute in Flint, MI. While working for General Motors, he met and married Marjorie Stroble. Together Les and Marge raised five children, Patty, Kathy, Carol, Mike and George. They lived in Union Lake, MI; Farmington, MI; Tulsa, OK; and London, England, where he was promoted to VP of European Operations for Vickers Corporation and eventually retired at the age of 55. Yet within 10 years was talked out of retirement by his youngest son George and proceeded to purchase the Eagle Snacks franchise from Anheuser Busch in Jacksonville,Fl. This brought many in the family together to operate the business for several years. He was very active and enjoyed golf. He was a member of the Orange Park Country Club and the Royal Order of Moose in Mandarin. He was health conscious before it became so popular. He was a long distance runner and an exercise junkie. He even played a little hockey at one time. He was preceded in death by his wife Marge and his son Michael John. He is survived by four children, Patricia O’Donoghue (John Thornton), Kathryn Hayman (Ralph), Carol O’Donoghue (Joel Preston), and George O’Donoghue (Nancy). Les has 13 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. The family will receive friends in the chapel of Broadus-Raines Funeral Home on Saturday, January 5th from 1:00 until 2:00 pm. Funeral services will begin at 2:00 pm officiated by Pastor Charlie Campbell. Interment will follow in Hickory Grove Cemetery. Following the interment, a celebration of Les' life will be held at George's home. Oglesby, Martin D.
Martin D. Oglesby, 67, of Orange Park, FL, passed away Wednesday, February 1, 2012. He was born on January 3, 1945 in Greenville, SC to parents Martin and Dorothy Oglesby. Mr. Oglesby had worked as an automotive machinist and enjoyed guns and auto racing. He was a very generous and helpful man who will be remembered for seeing the best in others. He was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his daughter, Keebra E. Pappalardo and husband Bobby; sister, Michele M. Mecir and husband Bob; grandchildren, Erin, Emily and Elaina; niece, Marissa Turner and husband Chris and nephew, Nick Mecir. OSTEEN, BETTY C.
Betty Clark O'Steen, 88, passed away on October 2, 2011. She was born October 22, 1922 in Blackshear, GA and was a charter member of Hillcrest Baptist Church as well as attended Cedar Creek Baptist Church. Mrs. O'Steen was the widow of William Lloyd O'Steen in 1980 and is survived by her loving children: William Larry (Dorothy) O'Steen, Lanis F. (Lorrie) O'Steen and Loy Latrelle O'Steen; brother, Norman J. Clark; 2 sisters: Lillian Sales and Ellen Starling; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. OSTEEN, JAMES “JIMMY” ARTHUR SR.
Mr. James ”Jimmy” Arthur Osteen, Sr. 69, of Starke passed away at his home on Saturday, July 30, 2011 following an extended illness. He was born in Trenton on September 7, 1941 to the late William Fields and Leonna Addie (Sheppard) Osteen, and has been a lifelong resident of the area. Prior to his retirement from the City of Starke was a Sanitation Truck Driver, and he had also attended the Morgan Road Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Sherry Osteen, granddaughter, Brittney Blanton, 3 sisters Mazzie Hall, Bessie Grantham, and Rosalee Yarghn preceded him in death. Survivors are his wife of 35 years, Linda (Craft) Osteen and their children; James Osteen, Jr. of Starke, Lynn Bowen of St. Augustine, and Jason Osteen of Raiford; his siblings; William M. Osteen, S.J. Osteen, Franklin Osteen, 11 grandchildren, and 9 great grandchildren; extended family of 4 sisters, 3 brothers and everyone else in the Craft family. Funeral services were held on Tuesday August 2 with Pastor James Blanton officiating. Burial was at the Crosby lake Cemetery. Owen, Richard "Dick" Emerys
Richard “Dick” Emerys Owen, 74, of Fleming Island, FL, passed away January 30, 2012. He was born on January 6, 1938 in Klamath Falls, OR to parents, Emerys and Evelyn Louise Roberts Owen. He grew up in Peoria, IL and attended Woodruff High School and graduated from Bradley University. He was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity and had served his country in the United States Army. He was known as a man for all seasons and touched everyone in his life in a very special way. He had a passion for cars, having raced on the SCCA circuit and owned a race shop where he built cars and engines. Dick loved the water and enjoyed Happy Hours aboard “Merlin’s Lady”. He was a member of the Jacksonville Boaters Club, aka Searay Club. Dick began his real estate career in Indianapolis, IN and moved to Fleming Island, FL in 1996 and joined Watson Realty. He most recently was associated with Prudential Realty. He was preceded in death by his parents and by his brother, Philip. Survivors include his wife, Constance “Connie” Owen; sons, Mark (Jessica) Owen and Erik (Diane) Owen; stepdaughter, Amy (Brice) Smith; stepson, Robert Todvine and grandchildren, Nicole Owen, Sergio Owen and precious Emmalie Hope Smith. Mrs. Leanore “Nicki” Owens 84, of Keystone Heights passed away on Saturday July 9, 2011 in Fleming Island. Mrs. Owens was born in Miami, FL on October 7, 1926 to the late Sidney and Edna (Thompson) Voorhees, and was a retired registered nurse. She was of the Methodist Faith and had attended Sunday school classes at Trinity Baptist Church in Keystone Heights. Mrs. Owens was preceded in death by her husband William Owens in 2005. Survivors are her children, Leeann Jacoby, Kim Owens, Janice Stricklin, ten grandchildren, and 17 great grandchildren. There are no scheduled services at this time. Owensby, Mrs. Vera Lynn (Pick)
Mrs. Vera Lynn (Pick) Owensby, age 67, of Fleming Island, Fl., formerly of Aiken, S.C. , died Monday, Feb. 13, 2012 in Orange Park Memorial Hospital. She had been an Alzheimer’s patient for the past 8 years. She was born on May 5, 1944 in Centralia, Il., the daughter of James W. and Loretta D. (Manning) Pick. Mrs. Owensby was an accomplished artist, and enjoyed golf, tennis and swimming. While living in Aiken, S.C. she and her husband owned and operated Owensby Buick-Cadillac, Inc. and later Owensby Buick-Pontiac-GMC, Inc. Mrs. Owensby was a member of Eagle Harbor Golf Club of Fleming Island and attended Orange Park United Methodist Church. She is survived by her husband Gary K. Owensby, her daughter Cristen Cobb of Fleming Island, Fl., her son Bradford M. Owensby of Aiken, S.C. and two grandchildren, Ryan M. Cobb and Sarah N. Cobb, both of Fleming Island, Fl., and her sister Thelma Thomas of Centralia, Il.
