Mr. Douglas Edward Salsbery, 48 of Keystone Heights passed away Sunday, January 2, 2011 at Shands UF. He was born in Detroit, Mich., on October 3, 1962, to the late Leonard and Barbra (Frost) Salsbery. He had worked several years as a Service Manager for a car dealership and was also the former owner of the White Elephant in Keystone Heights. He is survived by his daughters, Laure Greatrex of Edgewater; Jenifer Hutchison of Port Orange; step-daughter, Amber Cartee of Keystone Heights; siblings, Wendy Ortega of Jacksonville; Laure Young; Jeanne Shaw; and Walter Young all of Gainesville; and three grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on Saturday January 22 at 2 p.m. in the Jones-Gallagher Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at the Keystone Heights Cemetery. (March 17, 1921 - October 28, 2011) Mattieree B. Samuel, 90, of Penney Farms, FL, passed away Friday, October 28, 2011. She was born on March 17, 1921 in Raleigh, NC to parents, Charles and Mattie Baugh. She had been a teacher and was a former member of Southside Baptist Church in Jacksonville, FL. Mrs. Samuel was very involved with her church family and was a dedicated Sunday school teacher. She was preceded in death by her parents and by her husband, Roland David Samuel. Rachel D. Murphy Sanders, of Fleming Island, FL, passed away September 23, 2011. She was born on July 17, 1958 in Jacksonville, FL to Roy and Verlie Dorsett. A practicing attorney for 26 years, she had law offices in Palatka, FL. Rachel was a loving mother, daughter, sister and friend and will be deeply missed. Rachel was pre-deceased by her father, Roy James Dorsett and is survived by her mother, Verlie McCullough Dorsett of Orange Park, FL; son, Noah Sanders; daughter, Lily Sanders, both of Fleming Island, FL; brothers, Roy Jay Dorsett of Orange Park, FL and Scott Dorsett of Fleming Island, FL. SAUCIER, LEE WILLIARD
Lee Williard Saucier passed away peacefully on Monday August 29, 2011. Lee was born in Lincoln, NE but was raised in Gulfport, MS. Lee was a 22 year Veteran of the US Navy. He retired as a Chief Petty Officer in 1982. He then started his own company, “Lee’s RV Service” in Orange Park, FL and retired his business in 2006. Lee’s pride and joy is his family. He is survived by his mother, Ann, his sister Peggy and his two brothers, David and Kenny. Lee had 7 children with Betty Saucier: Ted Caffy, Kaye Cason, Kim Williams, Brian Saucier, Tanya Prevatt, Richard Saucier and Joe Saucier. Lee is also survived by his wife Diane and her two children, Jason and Rachel. He has a total of 21 grand children and 4 great grand children. He will be greatly missed by his loving family and enormous circle of friends. Donations in Lee’s honor can be made to: St. Judes Children Hospital and NE FL Community Hospice. SAUNDERS, MARY BROCK
Mrs. Mary Brock Saunders, 88, born April 24, 1923, passed away Wednesday July 13, 2011 in Green Cove Springs. She was one of the daughters of James and Mary Brock of Cove Street also in Green Cove Springs. She first married Rusty Bently of Green Cove and after his passing married Frank Saunders of Penney Farms. Both men were her childhood sweethearts. She worked at Camp Blanding and NAS Green Cove Springs before she took the position to manage Irving’s Department Store on Walnut Street in Green Cove during the 1950’s and 60’s. She was the last of the Green Cove Brock family and is only survived by nieces and nephews: Joey Sobotta, Max Sobotta, Mary Caldwell, June Sullivan, John, Bobby and Judy Geiger, Pam Johnson, Jill Ensley, Joy Pittacora, Ed Larson II and Jack Larson. She was greatly loved and will be truly missed. She was laid to rest at Black Creek Baptist Cemetery following funeral services at Broadus-Raines Funeral Home. Paul had been employed by FedEx and was of the Baptist faith. He enjoyed the outdoors, NASCAR and was an avid football fan. Ruth E. Scanlon, 80, of Fleming Island, FL passed away on Sunday, January 29, 2012. She was born on May 26, 1931 in Dedham, Massachusetts to parents Wilfred and Theresa (Cooper) Belanger. Ruth moved to the local area in 2007 from Orlando, FL. Mrs. Scanlon was of the Catholic faith. SCHLIMPER, ELIZABETH RUTH
Mrs. Elizabeth Ruth Schlimper, 89 of Green Cove Springs, Fla., passed away Thursday, June 23, 2011 after a prolonged illness. She was born in Mineola, NY on September 22, 1921. She retired from the New York School System and moved to Pine Knoll Shores, NC where her interest included gardening, sewing, reading, tennis and golf. She was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years Harry W. Schlimper in 1989. Survivors include her two sisters Dorothea Reed and Eleanor Langendorfer, 11 nieces and nephews, 13 great nieces and nephews. SCHMALRIED, DAVID ROWLAND
Funeral services for David Rowland Schmalried, 75, was held Thursday, May 19, 2011 in the chapel at Jacksonville Memory Gardens Funeral Home, 111 Blanding Blvd. Orange Park, Fla. Interment followed in Jacksonville Memory Gardens Cemetery with full military honors. He was born on March 12, 1936 in Fort Worth, Texas. He went home to be with the Lord on Monday, May 16, 2011 in Jacksonville surrounded by his family. He served his country proudly in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War and the Korean Conflict, and retired after 22 years of decorated service. He went on to work at NARF at N.A.S. Jacksonville and retired after 16 years of dedication to civil service. He is survived by his loving wife of 17 years, Maxine R. Schmalried; son, Gregory A. Schmalried; daughter, Krissanda K. McDonald; three brothers, Ed, Durwood and Frank Schmalried; three step-sons, Jimmy, Charles and David Deese; seven grandchildren, six step-grandchildren, six step-great-grandchildren, and many other loving family members and friends.

Schmitz, Alphonse Michael Jr.
Alphonse Michael Schmitz, Jr., beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully at home in Fleming Island on Nov 29, 2011. He was born on March 20, 1931, in Lynn, MA, the son of Alphonse Michael Sr and Olive Hobbs. He was raised in Portsmouth, NH. At 17, Al enlisted in the Navy, proudly serving aboard ships in Korea and Vietnam; taught sonar in Key West where he retired with a distinguished 20-year career. He also loved his second career as a mail carrier on the island. He was a member of the local VFW Post 5968 and local Fleet Reserve Assoc Branch 091, American Legion Post 006, Portsmouth, NH, and Naval Sonarman's Association. Al has a place in Heaven now with his two sons, Roger Michael and Robert John; his Mother and Father; two brothers, Buddy and Joe; great-grandson, Carter James, and dear friends, Nick Pappas and Mary Allen. Left to cherish his memories are his loving wife, Cathy, daughters Maggie Grice (Panama City Beach), Donna Marie Sherych (Jacksonville), Christina JJ (Todd) Shinovich (Fillmore IN), and son Robert Thomas Schmitz (Coatesville IN). Additional endearing family are his nephew Gene and niece Joy (both of Portsmouth NH), cousin Suzi Hafner (Cordtland NY), and 11 adorable grandchildren, Shannan, Roy Douglas, Cheyenne, Christopher, Benjamin, Emily, Abby, Jake, Brittany, Daniel, and Brylie. He was blessed with many life-long friends. Frank, Clyde, Nick, Peter V, Jimmy, Spiro, Fo, Peter C, Jack, and many more. Al's passions were spending time with his family and grand children, going on trips to visit friends, fishing, betting at the dog track, playing cards, watching the Florida Gators, and food (Maine lobsters and fried clams with bellies). He was inventive over the years, working with his hands building furniture and fixing anything. He was loving, wise, generous, humorous, and never met a stranger he didn't like. His family and friends will dearly miss him, and he will be in their hearts forever. Stanley Otis Schoel, 93, passed away on Tuesday September 20, 2011. He was born on June 1, 1918 in Birmingham, AL to parents Fred and Ella Schoel. He lived most of his life in Gulf Shores, Alabama. Stanley honorably served his country in the United States Army during WWII; earning the Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal with 2 Clusters and the Asiatic Pacific Medal with Bronze Star. He enjoyed living and traveling worldwide. Stanley attended the University of Alabama, where he earned a degree in Civil Engineering. He was of the Baptist faith and a member of the Washington Alpine Club. He also received a Certificate of Merit from the Alabama Department of Natural Resources. He is preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his great nephew, Joseph Tooker; great niece, Abigail D’Esposito and her husband Angelo. He was born on November 20, 1965 in Erie, PA to John and Edith Schweitzer. He had lived in Florida most of his life, coming to the Middleburg area 15 years ago. Gary was predeceased by his parents and is survived by his fiancé, Roxanne Berry; brothers, Dennis Schweitzer (wife, Maureen), William Schweitzer, Danny Schweitzer (wife, Rachel), and Scott Jones; sisters, Nancy Poole (husband, James), and Tammy Marie Mullins (husband, Tim); an uncle, nieces, nephews and many friends. Scott, Barry
Barry Gene Scott, September 19, 1949 - January 14, 2012 departed this life at home in Middleburg FL. A loving husband, father, son, brother, uncle and nephew is now with his mother, Anne Marie (Spellman) Scott, his paternal and maternal grandparents, his grandniece Keilyn Voltoline and other family members that he loved so much. He leaves behind to honor his memory, his loving wife of 31 years Pamela Scott, son Jon McCormick, father Charles Metz Scott, Jr., sisters Janis Scott (Tony Kalenkosky), Jill Cancello (Floyd), Judy Moss (Bruce), brothers Charles Michael Scott (Marcy Miller), Leon Miller (Marie Verrett), many loving nieces, nephews, grandnephews, grandniece and his trusted companions Cedar and Cat. He attended St. Xavier High School and graduated from Westport High School in Louisville, Kentucky. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. Barry was a 1978 graduate of the University of Florida with a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture. He was a long standing "Gator" Alumni. Barry had "blue and orange running through his veins". He was an Operating Engineer and a proud member of International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE) Local 673. He enjoyed his work as well as his coworkers. He lived his life in Florida and enjoyed sharing Florida's abundance with his family and friends holding them close. He loved traveling with his wife and their visits to Disney World, Kentucky, Colorado, California and New Orleans. He was an avid NFL fan. Barry always had a smile on his face and a wonderful story to tell. "If you asked Barry what time it was, he would tell you how to make a watch." He never met a stranger. Barry will be missed by all who knew him but never forgotten. His wife Pam will deeply miss her best friend and soul mate. Mrs. Elinor Doak Seighman, 84, was born on September 26, 1926 in Derry, Pennsylvania. She was the daughter of Westley Doak and Violet Laughlin. Elinor went home to be with the Lord on Saturday August 6, 2011 in Orange Park, Fla. She was buried on Wednesday, August 17 at Pennsville Baptist Cemetery in Mt. Pleasant, PA, next to her loving husband, John R. Seighman. Elinor touched the lives of many and will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew her. Mr. Seymour served in the US Army during WWII and was Forester for 30 years with the Forestry Commission for the state of GA. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nola Seymour in 2002 and survivors include his 2 sons David and Michael Seymour; 2 daughters: Judy Jenness and Andre Mann; sister, Mary Holcombe; 7 grandchildren and 1 great granddaughter. Mrs. Ida Mae Shaw 99, Keystone Heights passed away on Saturday, January 15, 2011 in Gainesville. She was born in Starke on May 25, 1911 to the late Lawton L. and Carrie (Ritch) Conner. She was a lifelong resident of the area and the last of 10 children born to Lawton and Carrie Conner. She was a homemaker, a member of the First Baptist Church; she enjoyed playing bridge and gardening. She was preceded in death by her husband, three children, nine siblings, two grandchildren, and one great grandchild. Her survivors are her daughter; Geraldine S. Bennett of Keystone Heights, eight grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and 30 nieces and nephews. Ms. Estelle “Mama Sue” Shealey, 71 of St. Augustine, passed away Monday, July 23, 2012 at The Bailey Center. Ms. Shealey was born July 19, 1941 in Alachua, Florida to the late David and Lucille (Thomas) Vaughn. She was a former longtime resident of Orange Dale and Green Cove Springs. She was a Mother and Friend to many, who affectionately knew her as “Mama Sue”, was a graduate of the Class of 1961 from Santa Fe High School, a member of Wards Creek Baptist Church, and 3 times Excellent Sales Winner for Avon. Ms. Shealey was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 41 years Trammell Shealey, and 3 sisters. Mary Angela Kehoe Stern Sheffield, 73, of Jacksonville, Florida passed away Saturday, December 10, 2011. She was born on September 20, 1938 in Cleveland, Ohio to Robert Leo and Catherine Sarah Kehoe. Mary Angela graduated college in 1956 from St. Augustine Academy, Cleveland, Ohio. She was of the Catholic faith. Mary Angela worked as a bookkeeper for Stern’s Swimming Pools for 25 years and later retired from St. Vincent’s Medical Center. She will always be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She is survived by her husband, Luther Clinton Sheffield; her children, Robert, Mark, Michael (Tammie) Stern, Therese Stern, Kathleen Stern and Colleen (Jimmie) Neal; her siblings, Robert Leo Kehoe, Jr., Bonnie (Bill) Vanek and Karen (Bob) Burtke and Marsi deClairville; her foster children, Andrew (Missy) Corson, R.D. In his spare time Erman enjoyed hunting, fishing, working in his vegetable garden and his CB radio, but cherished spending time with his family. Shultz, Glen Ovle
Glen Ovle Shultz (1926 – 2013) The “best flight engineer” has retired. Master Sargent Glen O. Shultz died Sunday, February 17th 2013, at Cypress Village Senior Living, with his wife of 68 years (Marilouise) and loving family by his side. Sgt. Shultz was a WWII Veteran, and in 1986 retired from the Florida Air National Guard after 32 years of service as a Flight Engineer. He loved flying, and all the men he worked with at the Florida Air National Guard. His motto was “find a job you are passionate about, and you will never work another day in your life”. He was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal and the Florida Cross among 19 other Medals and awards. Born in St. Joseph, MO, he was the son of the late Milton Jackson Shultz, Sr. and Marguerite “Brown” Shultz. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Milton Jackson Shultz, Jr. of Hollywood. FL. Sgt.Shultz was a member of Murray Hill Baptist church where he enjoyed singing in the choir for several years, as well as working in other various programs within the church. Glen O. Shultz will not only be remembered as a loving Father, husband and friend, but a remarkable humble man who loved people. He was compassionate and loving to everyone he met, especially the elderly. After retirement he and Marilouise volunteered countless hours working with the Alzheimer patients at Wyndham Lakes Retirement Village. Glen enjoyed driving the patients around Jacksonville and his wife prepared indoor activities for the residents. Both genuinely loved all the residents, wherever Glen was he made everyone feel extremely special. Mrs. Muriel Jane Meggs Simmons, 72, of Fleming Island, Fla., passed away Friday in a local hospital. She was a native of Columbus County, NC and was a resident of Columbus County as a child. She was a graduate of the Clarkton High School class of 1957 where she was a member of the Beta Club, Basketball team, FHA, Bible Club, C Club, Glee Club, French Club, Senior Editor of the yearbook, and performed many duties associated with being the Chief Marshall as a junior. She was a resident of Clay County, FL since 1967 where she worked as a registered nurse for the Orange Park Medical Center and retiring from the North Florida OB/GYN. In 1995, she moved to Holden Beach, NC for retirement. She returned to Clay County just a month prior to her death. SMITH, RAYMOND “RAY”
Mr. Raymond “Ray” Smith, 92, passed away Saturday, May 28, 2011 in Orange Park, Fla. He was born to Robert and Lillian Smith on May 30, 1918 in Long Island, New York. He married the love of his life, Miss Grace Kidd on September 1, 1940 in New York. They had three daughters, Maureen, Kathie and Kerri. Ray was a World War II Veteran, serving in the US Army from October 11, 1944 to April 21, 1946. He received the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, a Good Conduct Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal. He was a self-employed General Contractor retiring in 1980. He enjoyed boating and sailing. His love for sailing started at the young age of 12. Ray served his community of Center Moriches, NY in various ways serving on the School Board for 30 years, a 20-year volunteer fireman and was a long time member of the VFW. He became affiliated with the Loyal Order of Moose on February 7, 1982 when he joined the Stuart, FL Lodge #1282. He and his wife, Grace came to Moosehaven on June 22, 1999 where he resided for 11 years. He and Grace enjoyed over 68 years of marriage before Grace’ passing on January 2, 2009. He was one who enjoyed keeping busy so he was happy to accept the sunshine job as the Chapel Curator. He opened the chapel daily and made sure everything was in order. He set up the chapel for weekly mass; set up for funerals and made sure everything was in its place after each service. He did this for years until his health wouldn’t allow it. He also worked in our Convenience Store, which he enjoyed very much visiting with all the other residents who came in on a regular basis. When he first came to Moosehaven, he did a lot of yard work at Ryan Hall where he and Grace first lived. He always liked things to look nice. He is survived by Daughters, Kathie Bernabi of Cromwell, CT and Kerri Giuricco of Babylon, New York and four grandchildren and one great grandchild. Roberta Christine Smith, 75, of Jacksonville, FL passed away on Monday, March 5, 2012. She was born on November 13, 1936 in Woodbury, NJ to parents John Leonard and Elizabeth Irvine Cullin. Mrs. Smith moved to the local area last year from Risco, MO. She was of the Catholic faith and attended Most Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Jacksonville. In her spare time she enjoyed cooking for her family. Roberta had a wonderful passion for training horses and grooming them for races was one of her greatest loves. She will always be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother and friend. She is preceded in death by her parents; and brothers, Steven and John Cullin. Smith, Wilbur D., passed away Sunday Sept. 18, 2011. Born April 7, 1930 in Philadelphia, Pa., he moved to Orange Park in 1973 and was retired from the U.S. Navy after 20 yrs. Service to his Country. Following his military career, he retired from the Postal Service. His memberships included the Fleet Reserve and V.F.W. Survivors include his wife of 61 yrs., Helen Szoke Smith; daughter, Janice Marie Dimmock; 2 sons, Chris K. (Gennifer) Smith and Jeffrey Smith; 3 sisters, Phyllis Haag, Peggy Price, Lois Bates; 3 grandchildren, Sarah Haynes, Tyler and Cade Smith; 3 great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. Snyder, Betty
Betty Snyder, 85, passed away November 30, 2011 in Orange Park, FL. She was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana on October 31, 1926 and adopted by Charles and Laura McCombs of Warsaw, Indiana. Betty married Lawrence Stevens on June 25, 1944. They had five sons Larry, John, Michael, James(Pat) and Paul. John and Paul preceded her in death. She married Jerry Snyder on July 27, 1963 and he preceded her in death on January 16, 1980. She had many jobs in her life time. She was manager of a mobile home park for 13 years, school bus driver for 10 years, factory worker for 20 years, clerk typist for 5 years, spot welder, census taker, worked in a toll booth on the Brooksville Turnpike, and security guard for Borden Security. Betty became affiliated with the Loyal Order of Moose on May 26, 1978 when she joined the Chapter in Fort Wayne, Indiana. She transferred to Brooksville, Florida Chapter #229 on July 18, 1984. After much work, dedication and enjoyment, she received the Academy of Friendship Degree in 1990, Star Recorder in 1991, Green cap in 1994 and her College of Regents Degree in 1995. Betty came to Moosehaven on August 27, 2003 where she resided for 8 years. Funeral Services will be held Monday, December 5, 2011 at 1:30 PM in the Moosehaven Chapel officiated by Rev. SODERHOLM, ARLENE ETHEL
(August 28, 1918 - November 11, 2011) Arlene Ethel Soderholm passed away November 11, 2011 in Orange Park, FL at the age of 93. She was born to Robert and Ethel Yackel on August 28, 1918 in Syracuse, New York. Arlene married Harold Soderholm on June 15, 1937 in Syracuse, New York. They were blessed with one son and three daughters. Arlene became affiliated with the Loyal Order of Moose when she and her husband, Harold joined Lake Shore, FL Lodge and Chapter in August 1983. She enjoyed playing the piano for the chapter’s functions for many years. Arlene & her husband, Harold were no strangers to Moosehaven – both were employed by Moosehaven, Harold for 19 years and Arlene for 15. She retired as a hall Supervisor in 1984. They came to Moosehaven on July 20, 2004 where she resided for 7 years. Harold passed away on November 14, 2005. Arlene is survived by her son, Paul Soderholm of Tupper Lake, New York, daughter Janet Faist of Woodstock, Georgia, eleven grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Cynthia “Cindy” Ann Stallard, 47, of Middleburg, FL passed away Friday, March 2, 2012. She was born on November 10, 1964 in Grand Forks, North Dakota to parents Charles and Dorothy (Glisson) Stallard, Jr. Cindy moved to the local area 3 years ago from Phoenix, Arizona. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, in Middleburg, FL and volunteered her time as a Sunday School Teacher for the 3 to 4 year old class. One of Cynthia’s passions was politics. She was known to be an avid Republican who was always up to date with current events. Cindy was a member of the 9-12 Group and Christian Farmers in Ohio. In her spare time she enjoyed painting with acrylics and cooking. She will always be remembered as a loving daughter, sister and aunt. Alton Ronnie Stanley, Jr., 50, of Green Cove Springs, FL, passed away March 2, 2013. He was born on June 25, 1962 in Palatka, FL to parents, Alton and Lila Stanley, Sr. Mr. Stanley had worked as a truck driver for many years and was of the Baptist faith. He enjoyed fishing, was a big Elvis fan and loved the Dallas Cowboys. He will be dearly missed by his loving family and friends. STANSELL, GERALDINE “JERRY” RYAN
Mrs. Geraldine “Jerry” Ryan Stansell passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on April 21, 2011. She was born in Lackawanna, New York to Lucille Younkins Ryan and John Francis Ryan. She was raised in Greenville, Pa., and moved to Ocala, Fla., as a teenager. She received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Florida in June of 1951 and married her high school sweetheart, Joe Stansell, the next day. Her primary role was taking care of her husband and raising their four children and she taught sixth grade at Cedar Hills Elementary School for several years. She also designed and oversaw the construction of their home on Doctor’s Lake. She had been a member of Orange Park Garden Club, the Orange Park Debutante Coterie and the Orange Park Women’s Club. She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Walter Joe Stansell. She is survived by four children and eight grandchildren including Robin (Eddie) Isaac, Ryan and Brooke; Tracey (Joe) Durante, Shawn Estock, Garrett and Shannon; Mike (Pam) Stansell, Brian and Emily; Hildie Mahoney and Joshua Hughes. Mrs. Ida M. Merritt Stebbins 92, of Keystone Heights passed away December 10, 2011 in Jacksonville at the Community Hospice. Mrs. Stebbins was born on April 28, 1919 in Merritt Island, FL to the late James W. and Lulu (Holder) and was a homemaker. In 1983 Mrs. Stebbins had moved to Keystone Heights from Port Ritchie, FL and became a member of the Lake Hill Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her son; James F. Merritt. Survivors are her husband of 30 years; J.R. Stebbins of Keystone Heights, daughters; Nettie Lambert of North Carolina, Georgia Boykin of Keystone heights, sons; Mike Merritt (Genie), Robert Merritt both of Jacksonville and one brother; Bill Pinner of Miami. Mrs. Aarin Leigh Stephens, 41 passed away Saturday morning at her residence surrounded by family. She was born in Laredo, TX and she had been a resident of Fleming Island since 2006. She graduated from high school at Clark AFB in the Republic of Philippines, received her degree in Early Child Education from the Indiana University and was a school volunteer at Thunderbolt Elementary School. Her church membership was at the Orange Park United Methodist Church where she served on Family Council and Susanna Wesley Women’s Circle. She was also active in many aspects of the Girl Scouts including Troop Leader and Service Unit Officer. Her family remembers her as a loving wife, mother, teacher and child of God. Mrs. Phyllis Stickles passed away Saturday June 18, 2011 in the Moosehaven Life Care Center at the age of 83. She was born to Clarence and Ruth Haas on April 9, 1928 in Buffalo, NY. She married Edward Stickles on August 27, 1949 in Clyde, NY. They had two daughters, Cindy and Melody; three sons, John; Donald and Douglas. She worked at Rich’s Supermarket in the Deli and Meat Departments for seven years. She enjoyed sewing and being a housewife and mother. She became affiliated with the Loyal Order of Moose in March, 1971 when her husband, Ed joined Newport News, Virginia Lodge #1119. She joined Newport News, Virginia Chapter #213 and received her Academy of Friendship on April 1, 1973. She was a Life Member. Phyllis and Ed came to Moosehaven on May 7, 2003. Phyllis has resided at Moosehaven for 8 years. Memorial Services were held on June 24 in the Moosehaven Chapel followed by burial in Newport News, Va. Services conducted by Rev. David Henry Strickland, age 56, an iron worker and musician, passed away unexpectedly, Tuesday, October 18, 2011 at Shands Hospital in Jacksonville. David was born in Jacksonville on November 2, 1954 to John F. Strickland and Norma Mae Frier Strickland, he was the second oldest of four boys. She was a Parishioner of the St. William Catholic Church, Extra Ordinary Minister of Holy Communion, and was also the Treasurer for the Senior Center in Keystone. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard “Lenny” Strickler on July 22, 2011. Survivors are her children, Patricia Poage, Leslie Smith (Susan), Jack Smith (Gail), Larry Strickler (Annette), 16 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren, and one great great granddaughter. Mr. Leonard “Lenny” Eugene Strickler 86, of Keystone Heights passed away Friday July 22, 2011 in Gainesville. He was born in Granville, OH on December 5, 1924 and had served our country in the U.S. Marine Corps for 30 years. He was a Parishioner of the St. William Catholic Church, a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus, a member of the Am Vets Post 86, V.F. W, and the Senior Center. Mrs. J. Lori Strike 84 passed away Friday, June 24, 2011. She was born on Jan. 5, 1927 in Philadelphia, Pa., had retired from General Electric as a Personnel Supervisor. She became a resident of the Park of the Palms Retirement Center in 1985. She was preceded in death by her first husband; Robert T. Stigale, her son, R. Paul Stigale, and her second husband, William Mel Strike. She is survived by her one grandson, Joel David Stigale of Plantation, Fla., a missionary with Youth for Christ, serving in the Miami, Fla., area. Study, Kenneth L.
Kenneth L. Study, 84, beloved father, grandfather and United States Navy veteran, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his family on February 18, 2012, after a lengthy battle with cancer Ken was the son of John Herbert and Ruth Edna Study, born in Weidman, Michigan. He grew up with his family in the traditional farming communities of Indiana. He followed his four older brothers into the military in 1946. He received his Associate in Arts Degree from San Francisco City College. He served his country as a Naval Aviator during the Korean War and had several deployments in the western Pacific, concluding with a tour of duty at the Pentagon. He retired as a Navy Captain in 1973 after 28 years of service. He resided at his historic home overlooking the St. Johns River in Orange Park, FL for 44 years. He is predeceased by his exceptional and very loving wife of 56 years, Mary Anne Study. Survivors include his five children (and spouses) Kenna Study, Tim (Linda) Study, Tana Walker (Tim O'Reilly), Mark (Lori) Study and Karen Study; and grandchildren, Jessica (Jeff) Young, Lindsay (Jody) Haney, Zachary Walker & Wyatt Walker. Surviving siblings include Bob Study, Betty Iljana, Ona Fontaine, Joyce Pearson, Jon Study and Larry Study. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews and friends. Mrs. Felecia Rosier Suelter, 53, of Lawtey, FLA., passed away on Sunday, May 14, 2011 in Shands hospital at the University of Florida in Gainesville. She was born on October 11, 1957 in Starke to the late Bobby and Beatrice Griffis Rosier. She was a retired corrections officer in Lawtey. She was of the Baptist faith and enjoyed gardening and farming. Survivors include her husband, Mikel Suelter of Lawtey, and a brother, Daniel Rosier of Starke. Mrs. Carol Cummings Swain, 98, passed away Wednesday June 22, 2011 at St. Vincent’s Hospital. She moved to Jacksonville from Indianapolis, Ind., in 1994 after retiring as a law librarian with the firm Hall, Render, Killian, Heath and Lyman. She was a member of Riverside Presbyterian Church in Jacksonville, and an elder and deacon at Second Presbyterian Church in Indianapolis. She was a 50 year member of PEO, a philanthropic educational organization for women. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank H. Swain and is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Swain, Westfield, Ind.; daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Senko, Orange Park and many nieces and nephews. Rayford Phillip Swearingen, 68, of Middleburg, FL, passed away January 8, 2012. He was born on October 7, 1943 in Macon, GA to Ray and Alberta (Spivey) Swearingen and had lived in Pensacola, FL prior to moving to Middleburg in 1983. A Baptist by faith, he loved his family and friends dearly. Mr. Swearingen had retired from the U.S. Navy following 28 years of service and was very active in the VFW and American Legion (Middleburg). He loved crossword puzzles, frozen grapes, beer, cigarettes and playing Lotto. He was predeceased by his father and is survived by his mother, Alberta Spivey Swearingen; wife, Betty J.
