Lahey, Charlene Elizabeth "Char"
Charlene Elizabeth “Char” Lahey, of Green Cove Springs, passed away on February 21,
2012. She was born Sept. 19, 1955 in Schenectady, NY to Larry and Marie Shear, and
has lived in Florida since 1985. Char was a deputy sheriff for Clay County for 11 years,
and then worked for Progressive Insurance Co. In addition to her family, Char’s
real passion was taking care of her horses. She built a beautiful barn, Seven Oaks,
and could be found there morning and night. She had a large impact on the greater
horse community; she fostered rescued horses through Habitat for Horses, and her
charismatic involvement will be irreplaceable. Charlene is survived by her husband,
Tom Lahey, and three children, Brad Lahey, Pat Lahey, and Becky Lahey, all of the
greater Jacksonville area; her mother, Marie Tellier of Orange Park, sisters Laurie
Robinson and husband Tom of Bunt Hills, NY, and Patty Michon and husband Greg of
Middleburg, FL, two brothers, Nicholas Shear and wife Laura Lee of Elkins, AK, and
Victor Shear and wife Tara of Canajoharie, NY, five additional brother and
sisters-in-law, and eighteen nieces and nephews. Services will held on Tuesday,
February 28, 2012 at 10:00 am at St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Middleburg. Flowers
are welcome or in lieu of flowers donations can be made to the St. Luke’s day-care

(November 14, 1924 - November 1, 2011)
Mary Landers, 86, passed away November 1, 2011 in Orange Park, FL. She was
born to Anton and Antonia Petranich on November 14, 1924 in New York, New York.
Mary worked as a secretary and began working at the young age of 16 and worked
until the age of 81 years. She married John W. Keller on April 30, 1944 and
he preceded her in death on July 4, 2009. Mary married Robert Landers on May 6,
1971. He preceded her in death on March 16, 2003. She had three daughters,
Mary-Anne, Irene and Denise. Mary became affiliated with the Loyal Order of
Moose on August 12, 1985 when joined West Boca, Florida Chapter #2273.
She received Academy of Friendship degree on April 29, 1990. She served
as Past Regent in 1994. Mary came to Moosehaven on June 2, 2005
where she has resided for 6 years. She enjoyed life and loved Moosehaven and her
many friends. She enjoyed helping with the Catholic Services and serving communion
to the sick. She also loved her sunshine job working in the Country Store. The Mass
of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, November 4, 2011 at 2:00 PM. with
Father Joe Frazer as Celebrant and Opportunity Chapter officiating. She will be
laid to rest in St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Southhold, NY. She is survived by her
three daughters, Denise (Rob) Castineras of Cumming, Georgia, Irene (Dominick)
Tiranno of Woodside, New York, and Mary-Anne (Richie) Pavone of River Vale, New

LANDRY, MARY ELIZABETH
(June 6, 1944 - November 12, 2011)
Mary Elizabeth Landry, 67, of Middleburg, FL, passed away Saturday, November 12,
2011. She was born on June 6, 1944 in Chester, PA to parents, Arthur and Mildred
Rieck. Mrs. Landry moved to the local area in January of 1996 from Park Side,
PA and worked at the Wal-Mart on Blanding Blvd. in Orange Park. Mrs.
Landry was of the Protestant faith and was a member of VFW Post 8255 in
Middleburg. She enjoyed spending her time working and being with her loving
grandchildren. Survivors include her husband, Mitcheal Landry; son, Robert
Stasky of Middleburg, FL; daughter, Connie Strouse (Joseph) of Middleburg,
FL; brother, Arthur Rieck of Oxford, PA; sister, Linda Mitchell of Swarthmore,
PA; 5 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.

LANE, WILLIAM "BILL" SR.
Mr. William "Bill" Lane, Sr., 66, passed away Tuesday, February 24,
2009, in Centerville, Kan. He was born on December 23, 1942, in
Bridgeport, Conn., and moved to Clay County in 1990, from High Springs
and the Alachua County area. After his high school graduation, he
honorably served in The United States Coast Guard. Later, he began a
career with the Florida Fish and Wild Life Conservation Commission and
retired after 31 years of dedicated service. He will be remembered for
being an avid outdoorsman. He loved being out on the water, boating and
fishing. He also enjoyed marine mechanics, and he loved his guns and
riding horses. Survivors include his mother, Doris J. Clark; two
children: William G. (Sandi) Lane, Jr. and Lisa Craven; and three
grandchildren, Ashley Craven; and William and Audrey Lane. Memorial
services will be held on Friday, March 6 at 3:30 p.m. in the
Broadus-Raines Chapel officiated by the Rev. Charlie Hunt. In lieu of

LANGHAM, PAUL FLOYD
Paul Floyd Langham passed away on Saturday, September 24, 2011 in Orange
Park, FL at the age of 87. He was born to Chester and Beatrice Langham
on January 5, 1924 in Frankstown, Pennsylvania. Paul worked as an
aircraft mechanic for Piper Aircraft for 38 years. He married Pearl
Shaffer on September 29, 1945 in Pennsylvania. She preceded him in
death on March 22, 2004. Paul became affiliated with the Loyal Order of
Moose on May 31, 1978 when he joined the Vero Beach, Florida Lodge
#1822. Paul came to Moosehaven on June 15, 2004 where he resided for
7 years. He is survived by two nieces Dana McIntire of East Freedom,
Pennsylvania and Darlene Barnes of Stockbridge, Georgia.
Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, Fort Pierce, Florida.

Lantis, David King
David King Lantis, age 50, of Green Cove Springs died Thursday, August 02, 2012 at
Orange Park Medical Center. He was born December 7, 1961 in Xenia, Ohio. Mr. Lantis
served in the U.S. Army.
He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Lantis.
David is survived by his mother, Dorothy Trimble Lantis of Green Cove Springs, 2

LARUE, MILDRED ELVINA "DOLLY"
Funeral services for Mildred Elvina "Dolly" LaRue, 80, of Green Cove
Springs, Florida, were held on Saturday, January 31, 2009, in the Chapel
of Lawrence-Helm Family Funeral Home, Green Cove Springs, with Father
Darius Sleszynski officiating. Interment followed at Hickory Grove
Cemetery. Pall bearers were Mildred’s four sons, Franklin, Timothy,
Lewis, and Lawrence, and two nephews Jeffrey and Keith Olson. She passed
away Monday evening January 26, 2009, at St. Vincent’s Hospital,
Jacksonville, where she had been a patient since January 9th. She is
survived by her husband of 60 years, Phillip Lewis LaRue; four sons,
Franklin Elvin (Julia) of Keystone Heights; Timothy Carl (Cynthia);
Lewis Charles (Melissa); and Lawrence Paul (Tammy); all of Green Cove
Springs; and one daughter, Linda Lee Patterson (William), of Yulee; 17
grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, six great-great-children, one
brother, Howard Leo Olson, Helena, NY, many nieces, nephews, cousins,
and a community of friends. She was predeceased by one son, Robert
Phillip on August 30, 1949, at five months, her parents, Elvin and Mary
Olson, and three brothers, Harold Vernon Olson on Sept. 23, 1994, Elvin
John Olson on Sept. 7, 2006, and Robert Kenneth Olson on March 25, 1989.
She was born October 11, 1928, in Sacred Heart, Minn., the only daughter
of Elvin Leonard and Mary Louise Victoria (Derouchie) Olson; and was
raised in Helena, NY, attending area schools there. She was most
commonly known by the nickname "Dolly", which was given her by her
Father, as a young girl. On June 12, 1948, at Sacred Heart Rectory,
Massena, she married Phillip Lewis LaRue, son of the late Franklin and
Mary Carville LaRue, with Father Kellogg officiating. The couple moved
to Florida about 1949, where they have since resided, starting a house
moving business there, where Dolly was in charge of obtaining permits,
along with other office duties. All of her life, Dolly loved to dance,
especially to any country music, or as she called it "Real Country with
fiddles", where she thoroughly enjoyed step-dancing and square dancing.
She also loved fishing and was "the proud operator of the siren" on
their 1911 American LaFrance Fire Truck for the annual Green Cove
Springs Christmas Parade each year. She was a very devoted wife, mother,
and grandmother, who loved every single member of her family equally
with all the love a heart could give. She and Phillip can be very proud
of the outstanding love they have taught their family. She will be
missed dearly by her family and many, many friends. Arrangements

LASNE, LOUIS GERMAIN
(April 10, 1924 - November 13, 2011)
Louis Germain Lasne passed away November 13, 2011 in Orange Park, FL at the
age of 87. He was born to Louise and Germaine Lasne on April 10, 1924 in Sable
Sarthe, France. Louis worked as commercial fisherman and had his own business.
After he retired from the fishing business, he upholstered furniture. He married
Joyce Blanton on February 16, 1944 in Charleston, South Carolina. They had three
sons, Louis, John, Charles and two daughters Joyce and Lottian. Louis became
affiliated with the Loyal Order of Moose in 1978 when he joined the Nassau,
Florida Lodge #2352. Louis and Joyce came to Moosehaven on June 5, 2007 where he
resided for 4 years. Joyce preceded him in death on April 13, 2009. Memorial Services
held Friday, November 18, 2011 at 1:30 PM in the Moosehaven Chapel. Services conducted
by Rev. Helen Taylor and Opportunity Chapter. He will be laid to rest in Old St.
Andrews Episcopal Church Cemetery, Charleston, South Carolina. He is survived by his
children Louis, John, Charles Lasne, Joyce Scott and Lottian Mousseau. Also eleven

LAW, LILY ELENE
December 5, 1923 - October 8, 2011
Lily Elene Law, 87, of Green Cove Springs, FL, passed away October 8, 2011.
She was born on December 5, 1923 in Cordele, GA to Tom and Mattie Lou
Treadwell. She and her husband moved to Green Cove Springs 21 years ago
from Ft. Myers, FL. Mrs. Law was a member of the Order of the Eastern
Star, Chapter 45 in Green Cove Springs as well as Russell Baptist Church.
She was a loving and beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother
and will be missed by her family and many friends. Survivors include her
husband of 67 years, Grady B. Law; daughters, Linda Reid (Brian) of Ft.
Washington, MD, Nancy Law of Jacksonville, Barbara Law Clayton (Chuck)
of Orange Park and Rebecca Cote (Jordan) of Tempe, AZ; 5 grandchildren and
17 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 14, 2011 at Russell
Baptist Church, 2299 Sandridge Road in Green Cove Springs with Reverend Ron
Baker officiating.
The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 a.m. Mrs. Law will be buried at
2:00 p.m. in the Jacksonville National Cemetery.

LEAR, GERALD S. SR.
Lear, Sr., Gerald S. “Jerry”, went home to be with his Lord Monday,
Sept. 5, 2011. Born in Belfast, Maine, he moved to Clay County over 34
yrs. ago. Mr. Lear was retired CWO4, U S Navy, serving his Country for
30yrs and 3 months. Following his military career, he worked at the
Jacksonville Shipyards for 18 yrs. He was a devout Christian and a
former member for 25 yrs. in the Kingsley Ave. Assembly of God and at
the time of his death was a longtime member at the Christian Family
Center. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 yrs., Princess Pat Lear;
daughter and son-in-law, Beverly and Willie Beardsley; son, Gerald S.
Lear, Jr.; sister, Geneva (Walter) Kern; 2 grandchildren, Angela Marie
Schminke and husband Steve, Terrence Jerald “T.J.” Westerman; 3
great-grandchilden, Lucian Gerald Westerman, Tyler and Hunter Schminke.

Lemen, Dena Mae
(August 9, 1926 - March 24, 2012)
Dena Mae Lemen, 85, passed away at Penney Retirement Community on Saturday, March 24,
2012 surrounded by her family. She was a lifelong resident of Green Cove Springs but
had resided at Penney Farms for the last 2 years. She is descended from a long line
of American patriots and Florida pioneers.
She graduated from Clay High School in 1944 and attended Stetson University in
Deland. She enjoyed a career that spanned 30 years at The Bank of Green Cove Springs,
retiring in 1984 as Senior Vice President. For the last 26 years she has been traveling
with friends and making wonderful memories with her children and grandchildren. She is
a lifetime member of the Village Improvement Association (VIA) and Women’s Club of
Green Cove Springs, Clay County Historical Society and the Florida Sheriff’s Association.
She is preceded in death by her mother, Pearl Brooker Hall, her father, John Preston
Hall, her brother, J. P. Hall, Jr., and her former husband, William Tolin Lemen, Jr.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her daughter, Susan Lemen Williams and
son-in-law Larry, her son, William Tolin Lemen, III and former daughter-in-law,
Terry. Grandchildren, Amanda Lemen Robey, William Tolin Lemen, IV, Christopher
Donley Lemen, Larry Stuart Williams, Jr., Caroline Claire Williams, and
great-granddaughter, Madelyn Grace Robey. She is survived by her stepbrothers Allie
Ivey and David Ivey, cousin, Eleanor Loner, sister-in-law, Betty Lemen Kenney, and
many cherished nieces, nephews and friends.
A visitation will be held at Broadus - Raines Chapel, Green Cove Springs on Wednesday,
March 28, 2012 from 6 pm to 8 pm. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 29,
2012 at Penney Memorial Church, Penney Farms, Florida at 10:00 am with interment
immediately following at Hickory Grove Cemetery, Green Cove Springs.

Marjorie S. LeRoy, 55, of Orange Park, FL, passed away Sunday, April 8, 2012. She was
born on April 3, 1957 in Hamlet, NC to parents Theodore and Marjorie Schultz. Mrs. LeRoy
had worked as a secretary for the Federal Government and she attended Fleming Island
Baptist Church. She enjoyed reading and will be dearly missed by her loving family
and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and is survived by her husband,
Dan LeRoy; children, Charlie LeRoy (Lori) and Jennifer Perry; brother, Stan Schultz

Mr. James D. Less, age 54, of Jacksonville, died Tuesday, August 2, 2011
at his home. Born on November 1, 1956 in Corpus Christi, TX he was the
son of the late James and Shirley J. (Oneal) Less. Mr. Less was employed
in the sales industries and he was a Taxidermist. He is survived by his
three children; Daniel Less and Michael Less both of Fleming Island and
Kristen Less of Ponte Vedra. Two sisters: Sherry Rodrigues and Velma
Less both of Jacksonville. He is also survived by four grandchildren. A

Lester, Mr. Richard Harding
Mr. Richard Harding Lester age 91, of Penney Farms passed away Wednesday, August
22, 2012 at Community Hospice Acosta-Rua Center for Caring in Jacksonville. Mr. Lester
was born on March 2, 1921 in Milford, CT to the late William and Helen (Scott) Lester
and moved to Penney Farms from New Smyrna Beach. Prior to retirement he worked as a
psychologist. Richard served in the United States Air Force, was a member of the Lions
Club, Kiwanis Club, and Rotary Club. He was preceded in death by his wife and son Richard
Gerald Lester.
Survivors are his daughters: Barbara Lester Ryan of Danvers, MA; Colleen Lester Meuse
of Gloucester, MA; son: Francis Xavier Lester of Danvers, MA; four grandchildren; one

Chun Fang Li, 54, of Orange Park, FL passed away October 9, 2011. Born in
Calcutta, India on November 13, 1956; she is the daughter of the late Kwie
and Chook Liu. She has been an active member and Orange Park District Leader
of Orange Hill Chapter for SGI-USA - Nicheren Daishonin's Buddhism. She
owned and operated 2 restaurants with her husband. She is survived by her
husband Tao Hsien Li of 31 years, two daughters Feng Ling Li (Diane) and
Wen Ling Li Crews (Dorothy); brother Yin Liu; sisters: Kee Fong Li and Shung
Fong Chung, several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Tatiana L. Liebst, age 41, passed away Friday July 1, 2011. She
was born in Atlanta, Georgia and was a lifelong resident of Orange
Park. She graduated from St. Johns Country Day School in 1987 and
Rollins College in 1991. She had worked for the Cummer Gallery for the
last 6 years. Survivors include her father, Brien Liebst; aunt,

Mrs. Evelyn K. Lindsey, 77, passed away Friday June 10, 2011 in Orange
Park, Fla. She was born April 5, 1934 in Sumter, SC to Wooster and
Pauline Brown moving to Orange Park from Brunswick, Ga., 27 years ago.
She was a member of South Middleburg Baptist Church and enjoyed her
grandchildren and her dog Shatzy. She is survived by her husband of
sixty years, Walter; daughter, Kathy; brothers, Carl and Jim; sisters,
Joanne, Jean and Shirley; seven grandchildren and eleven great

Walter Lindsey Jr, 82, of Orange Park, FL passed away November 8, 2011. He was
born April 9, 1929 in Rochelle, GA to Walter and Julia Lindsey. He had retired
from the United States Air Force as Master Chief. Survivors include his daughter,
Kathy Lee of Osteen, FL; son, Dennis Stamer of Middleburg, FL; sister, Sudie
Stone of Rochelle, GA; seven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. A

Link, Donald Leo
Donald Leo Link, 58, of Middleburg, FL passed away at his residence on February 22,
2012. He was born in Jacksonville, FL on April 10, 1953 to Marcellus and Catherine
Link and had lived in the Jacksonville and Middleburg areas his entire life. He was
a member of HOG, the National Chimney Guild, was a Certified Master Mason, was active
as a coach of football and baseball at Middleburg Athletic Association and Wilkerson
Junior High in Middleburg. He was predeceased by his parents and is survived by his
wife, Jamie; children, Tabetha Kite-Morgan (husband, Jason Morgan) and Nick Link;
grandchildren, Wade, Maryann, Cierra and Leyna and 2 sisters. A memorial celebration
will be held at the Middleburg Mooselodge, 1932 Long Bay Road in Middleburg.

Litalien, Jeffrey Thomas
Jeffrey Thomas Litalien, 54, of Green Cove Springs, FL, passed away January 11,
2012. He was born on June 17, 1957 in Buffalo, NY to Albert and Anne Litalien. He
was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and was a registered nurse. He had lived in the area
for the past 16 years. Jeff enjoyed watching and playing golf and loved playing poker
with his family and friends. He also helped coach his son’s baseball team. Jeff loved
his family dearly and enjoyed playing with his children who meant the world to him.
He is survived by his parents, Albert and Anne Litalien; his children, Jessica and
Jack Litalien; the mother of his children, Cheryl D. Baardsen; his sisters, Jean
Henesy (Jake) and Janet LaFalce (John); numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial

LIVINGSTON, MARY E.
Mary E. Livingston, 83, passed away on Saturday July 31, 2011. She was
born in Jacksonville, FL and moved to Clay County in 1997. Mrs.
Livingston is a member of Black Pond Baptist Church, Eastern Star and
White Shrine. Survivors include her husband, James W. Livingston; son,
Richard Livingston; step-son, Ronald Livingston; step-daughter, Jeanelle
Swanson; 4 brothers: Robert, Jack, William and Daniel Baker; 4 sisters:
Martha Brown, Sandy Jenkins, Gail Head and Lavaina Baker; 9
grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandsons and a
number of nieces and nephews. Family will receive friends on Tuesday 6-8

Lockwood, Vincent A.
Vincent A. Lockwood, 69, of Green Cove Springs, FL passed away December 21, 2011
at Orange Park Medical Center.
Vince was born in Stamford, CT. to Vincent and Susan Lockwood. He loved the outdoors,
was an avid sportsman and motorcyclist and had a deep love for his family and animals.
Vince’s career in the automotive industry began at a Shell gas station where he met
Darleen, his loving wife. He rose through various positions in the auto business to
become the National Service Manager for Peugeot Motors of America before moving his
family to Green Cove Springs, FL and assuming the Southeast Region Service Training
Instructor position with Peugeot. Vince later left Peugeot and opened Automotion, a
full service auto repair business in Jacksonville that specialized in antique
automobiles. In his retirement and with great fulfillment, he worked with the
Council on Aging where he transported medical patients throughout Clay County.
Vince and Darleen began RVing, fell in love with the mountains of North Georgia and
Western North Carolina and most recently were still traveling across the United
States with their cats and motorcycles in tow making the most of their retirement
years.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Darleen; sons Scott and Todd Lockwood;
granddaughters, Kayla, Savannah, Mackenzie and Haley Lockwood; mother, Susan
Lockwood and sister, Penny Ehrenkranz.
A memorial gathering will be held from 2pm -5pm on Saturday, January 7, 2012 at Vince
and Darleen’s home in Lake Asbury. In lieu of flowers, Memorial Donations can be made
in Vince’s name to the American Cancer Society, the American Heart Association and/or

Mrs. Laura Jean Logan, 72, a longtime resident of Keystone Heights,
passed away on, Mon., July 11, 2011 in Jacksonville. She was born in
Middletown, NY on Feb. 3, 1939, and had formerly worked as a monitor on
the handicapped bus for the Clay County school district. She was also a
member of the First Presbyterian Church of Starke. Survivors include
her husband of 52 years, James Logan; her children, Ethel Pascall; Kathy
Padgett; James Logan Jr. ; Sherre Logan; James Logan III , Jackie
Padgett ; Steven Padgett; siblings, Joyce , Ed Magar , Carol Milky; Ken

Jo Nell Cleveland Long, 81, passed peacefully on Wednesday, September 7,
2011. She was born in Lavonia, Georgia, and went from being a
sharecropper’s daughter to traveling the world as a military wife and
mother. She met and married Beauford A. Long, her loving husband of
fifty-five years, in Norfolk, Virginia on November 15, 1950. She leaves
memories to be cherished by her four daughters, Deanna, Joanna, Anita
and Mariella, their husbands, eight grandchildren, their spouses, three
great-grandchildren, one sister, loving relatives and many long-standing

Leanders Lonzo, 49, of Fleming Island, FL, passed away unexpectedly on January 6,
2012. He was born on October 29, 1962 in New Orleans, LA to Frederick and Mary Lonzo.
He had retired as Senior Chief from the United States Navy following over 22 years
of dedicated service. He had been a Submariner Sonarman Technician. Mr. Lonzo was
predeceased by a brother and is survived by his wife of 19 years, Alicia Lonzo;

LOONEY, HERMAN E. SR.
Mr. Herman E. Looney, Sr., born September 19, 1933 in Grundy, VA was a
decorated Koran War Hero went home to be with the Lord, Memorial Day,
May 30, 2011. He was the loving husband to Patricia (Johnson) for 53
years. He was a loving father to Debbie (Wilson), Herman (Nancy), Arthur
(Ruth) and Brenda (Marshall). Loving grandfather to Murray (Stephanie),
Ashleigh, William, Timothy, Marshall Jr., Shaianne and Shane.
Great-grandfather to Brooklyn and Price. Brothers Chester and Paul,
sisters: Lorraine, Nadine and Pauline (deceased); many nieces and
nephews. He will be missed by many of his church family at Black Pond

Earl Dean Loughner, 86, of Middleburg, FL passed away December 1, 2011. Mr. Loughner
was Catholic, a former member of the VFW and the American Legion and was the Past
President of AARP in Pittsburg, PA. He is survived by his sons, Lenny (Debbie)
Smith and Steve Smith of Middleburg; grandchildren, Aaron, Rachel, Caitlin,

Mr. Wendell Thomas “W.T.” Lowe 78 of Keystone Heights passed away on
Friday July 29, 2011 at the Shands at Starke Hospital. Mr. Lowe was
born in Gap Creek, Kentucky on January 15, 1933 to the late Hubert and
Lille (Frost) Lowe. He was a retired Engineer from the telephone

Mrs. Mary Clara Luches, 86, passed away suddenly Thursday April 28, 2011.
Born July 14, 1924 in Beaver Falls, Pa., to Carmine and Dominica D’Aloisio
Gasper, she had moved to Fleming Island in 2004 from San Diego, CA.
She was a member of the Orange Park Senior Citizens Center and a devoted
communicant of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and was particularly devoted
to Our Lady. Survivors include her daughter, Cathy Rockford and
grandchildren, Dayna and Ryan Rockford, all of Fleming Island; sister,
Flora Mae Tomaino of Baden, PA; niece, Margaret (Tom) Restak of
Rochester, PA; nephews, Richard Tomaino of Orlando, FL and John Tomaino
of Rochester, PA; several great-nieces and great-nephews and numerous

Mrs. Randi Lynn (Sutton) Luck, 52, of Green Cove Springs, Fla., formerly

as well as her stepson, Jeffrey Luck (Elaine) and two cherished

Luten, Joseph H. Sr.
Colonel Joseph H. Luten, Sr., USMCR (Ret), age 83, passed away March 15, 2012. He
was born in Sarasota, Florida on February 13, 1929 to his parents, John Edward Luten
and Josephine Helton Luten, who moved the family back to Quincy, FL where Joe grew up
with his 3 brothers, J.E., William and Arthur. Joe graduated from Gadsden County High
School in 1947, and then joined the United States Marine Corps. Joe received a Bachelors
degree from Livingston State College in Alabama, where he played middle linebacker for
the football team. His college friends referred to him as being "rough, tough and hard
to bluff" and nicknamed him "The Boogie Man" for his love of music and dance, especially
the Jitterbug. Joe also attended graduate school at Florida State University.
In 1958, Joe settled down in Jacksonville, Florida where he became a teacher at
Ribault High School and coached track and football. It was during this time that Joe
met the love of his life, June Lassiter Luten, deceased, of Havana, Florida, also a
teacher. Their relationship began when friends recommended they drive back to Northwest
Florida together to their hometowns which were only 15 miles apart. They were married
in November, 1959 and raised three children together.
Joe began his 47 year career as a State Farm Insurance Agent in 1962. He worked loyally
for the company until his retirement on July 31, 2010. Special recognition and gratitude
to Joe's Office Manager, Robin Lewis, who kept Joe and his office highly organized
for nearly 30 years. After his retirement, Joe continued to go to the office everyday
to be with his family who opened a new insurance agency at his Blanding Boulevard office.
Joe retired from the Marine Corps with the rank of Colonel after 36 years of faithful
service. He was the Commanding Officer of Company B, 4th Assault Amphibian Battalion,
4th Marine Division, where he was very involved in recruitment and The for Toys for
Tots campaign.
Joe was a devoted husband and father who always put his family above all else. He
loved spending time with his friends, the outdoors, his Brittany Spaniel dogs, was an
avid hunter and fisherman , and loved Florida State University Football. Survivors
include his son Joey Luten (Angie Ricks), 3 daughters, Lee Luten Harris, Janie Luten
Stiehl (Mark) and Julie Luten Schilbrack (Scott), 9 grandchildren and 4 great-
Grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Monday, March 19th at Orange Park United Methodist
Church, 2051 Park Ave. Orange Park, at 11:00 AM with Rev. Pearl Boles officiating. The
family will receive friends Sunday at HARDAGE-GIDDENS RIVERMEAD FUNERAL HOME, 127
Blanding Blvd, Orange Park FL 32073 from 3 to 5 PM. Interment will be at Eastern

Lyons, Mrs. Eleanor Highsmith
Mrs. Eleanor Highsmith Lyons age 79, of Starke passed away December 20, 2011 at
Kindred Hospital in Green Cove Springs. Mrs. Lyons was born on March 31, 1932 the
last of nine children, in Waycross, Georgia to the late Henry Rodgers and Nancy
Elizabeth Dowling Highsmith and was a longtime area resident. She was a homemaker
and a member of Sampson City Church of God. Eleanor enjoyed spending time with her
family, playing cards on the computer, and listening to the Grand Ole Opry.
She was preceded in death by her husband Perry Lyons in 2001, daughter Linda Eunice
in 1995, and granddaughter Kasadee Warren in 2008. Survivors are: son: Phillip
Lyons (Sheila) of Starke daughters: Phyllis Warren (Buddy); Mary Ann Lyons; Denise
Zipperer (Randall) all of Starke; twelve grandchildren; several great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends in the DEWITT C. JONES CHAPEL, 620 E Nona St. in
Starke on Thursday, December 22, 2011 from 6-8 PM. Funeral services will be on Friday,
